George I Collection from Theodore Alexander

1714-1727 England

Following in the footsteps of the Queen Anne style, the court furniture under George I saw an increased use of carving with a more classical, masculine bias. While some earlier forms remained, they were decorated with more elaborate carving or gilding.

Under George I, George II and George III, in England, were defined the distinguishing characteristics of the now called Georgian style of furniture.
