Louis XVI from Theodore Alexander
1774-1792 France
Louis XVI (1774-1792) is associated mainly with Neo-Classicism. With the discovery of the ruins of Pompeii in 1748 and excitement over further archaeological discoveries, features from antiquity along with applications of classical proportions found their way into the design of this period.
